Our History:
In the fall of 2006, Maryann Hedaa and Griselle Baret convened a group of 16 community leaders with the goal of improving academic outcomes and creating a pathway out of poverty by increasing educational opportunities for Hunts Point youth with the support of the Charles Hayden Foundation and Fordham University. After a year of research and community assessments with partners, the Hunts Point Alliance for Children (HPAC) was formed in 2007 to address programmatic and service gaps not then fulfilled by members of the Hunts Point community. The goals were raising the educational achievement and opportunities of children in the Hunts Point peninsula and increasing the resources available to community families.
Over a decade later, HPAC has grown significantly in both direct service work with Hunts Point children from birth to age 24 and their families, as well as bringing community partners together to break organizational silos. Each year, HPAC continues to impact over 2,000 children and families, ensuring that all members of the Hunts Point community have the skills, resources, and support to live healthy and productive lives.
