On Friday, May 20th and Saturday, May 21st, the Storefront Ensemble performed “Life that Grows from the Sidewalk,” a collection of monologues and scenes that the ensemble wrote and compiled themselves. Each year, 7th and 8th grade scholars who participate in the Storefront Ensemble work with teaching artists to craft written pieces that reflect their own interests and experiences. After a comprehensive editing process, these pieces are woven together and performed as one theatrical show. This year, the writing prompts included historical fiction, personal narratives, and contemporary interpretations of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. More pictures of the performance can been seen on facebook.
