HPAC’s 2018 College and Career Day

Hunts Point Scholars learn about careers and tour Lehman College

On Saturday, March 10th, a group of 54 excited HPAC scholars visited Lehman College for the 2018 HPAC College and Career Day! This fun, activity-filled day is an opportunity to expose our scholars to positive career role models and to learn about different career and educational pathways. Volunteers from career backgrounds in education, the NYPD, the FDNY, law, engineering, finance and many more spent the day sharing their own journeys with our students.

One of the activities all scholars participated in was the “Speed Career Info Session,” where they had the chance to interview four professionals for ten minutes speed rounds. The older students completed a scavenger hunt where they identified different career skills associated with the volunteers. Our younger scholars completed Instagram profiles of one of the volunteers and presented them to the entire group. A special highlight was a full tour of the Lehman Campus for our older students with the Lehman CUNY Explorers team.

Thank you to all our career volunteers for taking time out of your busy schedules to share your career and career experience to our scholars, and L+M Development Partners for your team of volunteers and support. Thank you to Lehman College for hosting our students. And special thank you to Councilmember Salamanca for your continuing support of HPAC’s ongoing college and career programming.
