On December 3rd, the Hunts Point Alliance for Children held the Winter Mentor Outing, including the freshman mentees, their mentors and parents. Mentors had the opportunity to spend time with their mentees while sharing a meal, and meet their mentees parents for the first time. After lunch, everyone walked together to El Museo del Barrio for a walking tour of the Museum’s permanent collection.
The HPAC Mentor program launched before the end of the school year this past June as a pilot, connecting HPAC Scholars with caring adults prior to beginning their freshman year, many at new high schools with new peers. After two introductory sessions, students and mentors are communicate electronically and students wait eagerly to receive an email from their mentors.
