2018 Honoree – The Bunzel Family
A note from Mary Elizabeth:
It has been an honor for our family to be involved with HPAC and its life-changing mission for almost eight years. HPAC embodies the virtuous circle. What our family has been fortunate to contribute, has been given back to us in buckets full of love and pride in the young people we’ve known. Beginning with our sponsorship of Adrian Alonzo (the 5th Bunzel sibling!) at Fordham Prep, we watched him work hard and excel in the classroom and the community beyond anyone’s expectations. In the years between college and medical school, our son Eli taught at St Ignatius and tutored HPAC scholars as they prepared for the critical transition from middle to high school. I will never forget Eli’s smile when he learned that James Muentes had been accepted to Cristo Rey New York High School, his first choice school. Through HPAC’s partnership with the Kenyon Review, Mary Elizabeth shares her love of poetry with the Mighty Quills, the after-school creative writing program. She is continually nourished and inspired by the beauty and insight of their poetry. Jeff now serves on HPAC Board and is witness to the dedication and excellence of HPAC staff and volunteers who work together to support the dreams of these extraordinary young men and women.
